LGBTQ+ Basics
for Therapists 

The LGBTQ+ Basics for Therapists workshop is intended to be an introductory training for mental health providers who may not have much background knowledge on the LGBTQ+ community. It's got the same basic information but geared toward clinic work with queer and trans clients.

 

*Can be 1-3 hours long.

*Recommended number of participants: 10-30

All trainings can be adjusted as needed to fit your organization's specific needs​​​

Covered topics:

  • Common terms and definitions

  • Sex assigned at birth, intersex, etc

  • Gender Identity, how gender develops

  • Sexuality, different identity labels

  • Different relationship structures, including polyamory

  • Derogatory and offensive terms to stay away from

  • How to be supportive of LGBTQ+ clients

  • Supporting clients who experience homophobia and transphobia

  • Basic identity development model

  • Intersection with racism, fatphobia, and ableism
